KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) – A Kinston man is behind bars after police say he rode his bike drunk and threatened to bite officers.
Officials say the Kinston Police Department A-Squad responded to Food Lion for a shoplifting/theft call on Monday around 6:05 p.m.
When officers arrived on scene, they said they saw a suspect on W. Washington Ave who matched the description given by a witness.
Officers identified the suspect from previous encounters as 35-year-old Michael Jenkins of Kinston.
Officers say they attempted to make contact with Jenkins and he responded with the words “challenge” and took off on his bicycle heading west on Washington Ave. After a brief pursuit, Jenkins was taken into custody and charged with DWI.
During his arrest, officers say they found an open bottle of wine that had been stolen from Food Lion.
While he was being processed, police say Jenkins threatened to bite the arresting officers.
Jenkins was charged with driving under the influence, resisting a government official, misdemeanor theft and uttering threats before being placed in the Lenoir County Jail under a secured bond.
